an encoder application

hi guys

i m working on a mobile robot for 2 months and need to control robots speed with an encoder. i need some help about how to confirm an encoder curcuit. is there anyone worked before on encoders can help me?

Greetings,

Encoders are usually open collector outputs. You will need to have a pull up on the signal. I do not know which type of encoder you are using, absolute or incremental, but either might work fine depending on your application. The output of the encoder can be in quadrature, or a pulse train with a direction signal (high or low depending on motion). There might be a third option, but I cannot remember.
